A menu’s headline price does not necessarily describe your finished custom set. Your current nails, desired length and design request all belong in the estimate. Start with an all-in budget in yen, a reference image and photos of your current nails. That gives the salon a clearer brief than a menu name alone.

Give a total budget, not just a menu name
Explain whether your amount is a firm limit or a preferred target. A similarly named basic course at another salon or branch may cover a different scope, so ask about the request you actually want.
“My total budget is [amount] yen, including removal and any additional design charges. Could you suggest a version of this design within that amount?”
If you would consider a higher total for one important detail, identify it. If the limit is firm, state that clearly. You do not need to apologize for asking the artist to discuss options within your budget.
Show the starting nails as well as the finished look
A design photo cannot explain removal or extension needs. Send current photos and describe:
- Any existing material, or that you do not know what it is.
- Your preferred length and shape.
- Whether you want length added to all nails or only some.
- Anything you want the artist to assess before agreeing on the service.
BARON mainly uses full-cover tips for length extensions, which differ from liquid-and-powder acrylic. If you need acrylic specifically, confirm availability rather than treating the methods as interchangeable. If you already wear a set, the removal booking guide explains how to describe it without guessing the material.
Ask what the estimate includes
Use these as questions about your quote, not assumptions that every item always carries a separate charge:
- Does the total include removal of my current set?
- Does it include the extensions and length discussed?
- Which painted details and decorations are included?
- Are the requested parts included, or are any extras still undecided?
- Is this the tax-inclusive total?
- Does anything remain subject to an in-person assessment?
Confirm the time needed as well. A design that fits your budget still needs to fit the appointment and your plans. If a course says “unlimited color” or “unlimited art,” read how to distinguish color, stone and art allowances on a Japanese nail menu before assuming which details are included.
Use a keep, change and drop list
If the estimate exceeds your target, give the artist priorities rather than asking for “the same but cheaper.” For example:
- Keep: a pink base and one bow on each hand.
- Change: the smaller stones or number of accent nails.
- Drop: an optional detail that matters less to you.
This is a hypothetical design brief, not a priced BARON menu. Ask which changes would actually affect the total. Smaller parts, fewer colors or shorter nails should not automatically be assumed to cost less. The salon can explain the options for your particular request.
Compare like with like
When comparing two options, check that both estimates address the same removal, length, artwork and parts. A lower number is not a useful comparison if it leaves out an essential part of your appointment.
Use current information for your chosen branch. An old menu screenshot or a design shown on Instagram is not a personalized quote. For help reading the booking terminology, see the Japanese booking menu guide.
Confirm changes before the work begins
Review the agreed design and budget after any assessment. If a proposed change affects the scope, ask for the revised total and time before agreeing.
“Please check with me before adding anything that would take the total above [amount] yen.”
This makes your spending limit clear while leaving room to discuss alternatives.
Request a design estimate from BARON
BARON is women-only, with salons in Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Machida, Hiratsuka and Shinsaibashi. Choose your branch using the English salon guide. Some staff speak English and translation apps can help; confirm language support for your appointment.
Browse the English inspiration account, then send your reference, current nail photos, preferred branch, dates and total budget through official LINE or official Instagram DM. Wait for confirmation of the service, price and appointment details before treating the inquiry as a booking.
